Water features built for Maine, not adapted to it
Most of what's written about backyard ponds assumes a mild climate and soft ground. Maine gives you neither. Our building season runs from ice-out and mud season through the first hard freeze — which in practice means a good build calendar fills by early spring. Under the topsoil you'll often find ledge, and how much of it sits beneath your chosen spot is usually the single biggest variable in what a pond costs here.
We're based in Maine and we build here year after year, so the design accounts for all of it up front: where the falls sit so you hear them from the deck, how the feature reads under six months of low light, and how it gets shut down and woken up each year without drama.
What we build for Maine homeowners
Four kinds of water feature, each scoped and designed for the property it sits on.
Ecosystem Ponds
Living, low-maintenance ponds balanced by nature — crystal water, koi, and lush marginal plantings that get better every season.
Ecosystem Ponds in Maine →Pondless Waterfalls
All the sound and movement of a waterfall with no open water — a striking, child-safe centerpiece that disappears underground.
Pondless Waterfalls in Maine →Streams & Brooks
Meandering streams that wind through your landscape, tying gardens, patios, and gathering spaces together with gentle current.
Streams & Brooks in Maine →Fountains & Water Features
Bubbling boulders, spillways, and architectural fountains scaled from intimate courtyards to grand entryways.
Fountains & Water Features in Maine →Built for a Maine winter
Anyone can dig a hole and drop in a liner. Getting one through February is the part that takes local experience.
The season is short — book early
Between ice-out and the first hard freeze there are only so many build weeks, and the good ones go fast. Most of our spring calendar is spoken for by March.
Fish overwinter under the ice
Koi and goldfish spend the winter dormant near the bottom. A de-icer and an aerator keep one hole open so gases can escape — that opening, not depth alone, is what carries them through.
Hardwood leaf load is real
An October in Maine will fill a pond if you let it. We net before the drop and clear the debris before shutdown, so the water isn't spending winter digesting a foot of maple leaves.
Ledge changes the number
Granite sits close to the surface in much of the state. We probe on the consultation, so the price you're given accounts for what's actually under the spot you picked.

Questions Maine homeowners ask
Can a pond survive a Maine winter?
Yes — properly built ones do it every year. The pond freezes at the surface while the fish go dormant near the bottom. A de-icer and aerator hold one small opening so gases can escape, and the system looks after itself until spring.
When should I book to get built this year?
As early as you can. Our build season runs from spring thaw to the first hard freeze, and spring slots are typically committed by March. A consultation over the winter usually means a build in the first half of the season.
What does ledge do to the price?
It's the biggest single variable in Maine. Shallow granite can mean shifting the feature a few feet or bringing different equipment. We check on the consultation so it's priced in from the start, rather than appearing later as a change order.
How much maintenance is a pond, really?
A properly balanced ecosystem pond is closer to a garden bed than a swimming pool — no chemicals and no weekly routine. Most owners do a spring cleanout and a fall shutdown, and we offer both as a care plan.
Do you serve all of Maine?
We build throughout the state, and we also serve New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Travel beyond our usual radius is quoted up front, never added later.
